South Loch Awe-side
Community Company

South Loch Awe-side Community Company (SLACC) was set up in 2014 by a group of Loch Awe-side residents and constituted as a not-for-profit development organisation with the aim of improving the lochside’s access to services and fostering opportunities for small businesses.  It’s an open development organisation which all those with an interest in the community have always been encouraged to join and support.

Early initiatives included a very extensive research project into the feasibility of setting up a lochside-managed community broadband facility.  Another feasibility study looked at the potential use of the redundant Ardchonnel school and the adjacent Dun, for tourism, micro-enterprise or similar.  A number of defibrillators have been installed at strategic points along the lochside; they have been put to use but thankfully not too often.
Current (2025) focus is on supporting the vibrant lochside clubs and societies, all eleven of them; they cover an exceptionally wide range of activities for such a small population.  Most of them use the Portsonachan Village Hall as a base, and SLACC is actively engaged in supporting the Hall Committee’s drive to renovate and modernise this building at the heart of the community.  Additionally, SLACC supports and is part of the larger area development initiative, Glenorchy and Innishael Community Action.   Funds for these grants largely stem from operators of local hydro schemes, including Redstart Renewables who operate Kames Hydro scheme.
SLACC also manages the mini grants from the An Suidhe Wind farm fund, and the application forms for this and the SLACC group grants are available to download here.
With the lochside experiencing continued focus from renewable energy companies, SLACC seeks to act as an interface and maintain dialogue with the developers where it can, to promote the community’s best interests.
